15 Ways To Save Water
Learning to save water is not hard and very hip nowadays.
It's a very cost effective way to save money and help the planet at the same time. Regardless of the reasoning behind your interest in saving water, I am sure these tips will help.
1. Save water by turning it off when you're not using it! Examples of when you're not using it include:
- While brushing your teeth
- Scrubbing or cleaning your face
- Scrubbing stuck on food off your dishes
- Shower and bath time, get wet turn the water off soap up, scrub your head and smelly armpits then turn the water back on and rinse off
2. Toss scrap food and leftovers. Garbage disposals waste water because you have to leave the water running until the job is done. Instead toss the food in the trash or give it to the neighbor's cat fluffy. You have saved money and made a new neighborhood friend.
3. Don't spray your sidewalk and driveway off with a water hose, grab a leaf blower or to save even more money use a broom or a scrub brush in the rain, that is being frugal.
4. Stick a bucket in the shower while you're waiting on it to warm up. You get lots of water for your house plants, and it shortens the whole watering your plant chore.
5. Make sure the dishwasher is completely full most dishwashers use the same amount of water to wash one spoon or an entire load. Even cheaper wash your dishes by hand.
6. Dido on the laundry. Make sure your washing machine is full or at least turn down the water setting for smaller loads. Cheapest way to wash clothes.... you guessed it do it by hand and then hang them out to dry.
7. The toilet is not a garbage can or ashtray. Think about it. Would anyone poor a gallon of water on a cigarette in order to put it out? Well, that’s how much water if not more that you are wasting when you toss it in the john.
8. Reduce the amount of money you flush away by placing a brick or a bottle filled with sand in the back of your toilet.
9. Fix those leaks. Water faucets, showers, pipes, toilets, all add up to big savings if there in proper running order.
10. Showers use far less water than that Jacuzzi tub of yours so save it for special occasions.
11. Wash your car with a bucket and only turn the hose on to rinse, or just for fun watch the weather channel and the next time it's about to rain run outside and soap that little V W bug up, then let the rain take care of the rest.
12. Mow your lawn every two weeks instead of every week not only does it save water because the longer grass shades the roots letting them retain the moisture, but it saves gasoline to.
13. Place a barrel under the corner of your roof to collect rain water, then use the rain water to water your gardens.
14. Adjust your sprinklers so they are watering your lawn and not your driveway or the road.
15. Last but not least place a bar of soap in your toilet, toss the family cat in and stand on the lid. Wait three minutes and carefully open the toilet lid. The cat will shoot out clean as a whistle and the toilet will be spotless. Save water! (no animals were harmed for this post, I don’t recommend this one)
