There are many frugal and nutritional recipes circulating, but what about hydration? Water is the most essential nutrient in the body. Both kids and adults benefit from clean, pure water. And guess what? It's cheap right from the tap.
For most of us in the United States, tap water is safe to drink and may even contain added fluoride to help avoid dental cavities.
If you are not among this population, from a decent investment in a water filter, you can save a good deal of money.
Purchase a few reusable plastic water bottles and voila- your set. Eventually you will have to change your filter, but in the end you still save money. Additionally, you better your environment by reducing plastic waste.
No more disposable plastic bottles that have to be produced, filled, and carted halfway across the world for you to drink a liquid the happens to cover seventy percent of the earth!
Well, I know that some of us aren't quite ready to give up our Fuji waters, or even our generic bottled waters just yet. That's okay too. Water is often available by the case in large quantities at the same price per gallon, and often less than sugary sodas or juices.
Just be sure to reuse or refill your bottled water if possible. Many public places will allow the public tofreely refill waters at schools, work, or around town. And by switching to water, you decrease caffeine, sugar, and sodium intake (assuming your bottled water doesn't contain added sodium-check the label!).
This, in turn, with reduce overall 'empty calorie intake,' benefiting the entire family.
By eliminating or reducing soda you can save more money in the long run. Soda is a notorious culprit when it comes to tooth decay, especially in children.
How does saving money at the dentist sound? Plus, when soda is out of the picture, milk is more appealing to children. So, make way for strong bones and teeth!
And wait, of course, there is more! Tea and powdered juices can be used to cheaply favor water and add variety. Who says being healthy has to be boring? Add a lemon juice and a teaspoon of sugar and you've got a simple, refreshing drink without other of those crazy ingredients.
Was sodium hexametaphosphate part of that tasty lemony drink your mother served on hot summer days?..... And it doesn't have to be for your children either.
You could even buy carbonated water if you'd like! So, I know that's not the most exciting indulgence, but it's good for you, your wallet, and the environment! Plus, it's okay to splurge sometimes, we all do!
