Only buy what is on sale!

I shop once a week and only buy items that are on sale! Unless it is absolutely necessary and can't be found on sale, I will buy sale items only. Everything goes on sale eventually, so you can easily keep everything in stock on a budget!
This works especially well with items like meats --buy in bulk when a certain meat goes on sale and freeze it in meal size portions.
A new cereal is on sale every week...you can get a good variety this way! Try new things!
I also keep my eye out for discontinued items --I live in a small town, with small stores, and they are always discontinuing one item to stock another...sometimes you can get up to 75% off by finding these items!
We also have a local restaurant supply store that opens up their doors to the public... it's like having a BJ's without the membership fees -- buying in bulk can be a huge money saver!
